Ascension 105!!

Posted on August 13, 2007 at 6:20 PM by Jennifer Brozenske

The pickings are slim this month, with my father in the hospital, Electrichead taking care of me, and Sugarpuss in the midst of another move, the only person who had any free time was The Stranger. But don't fret, his work is as good as ever. Hopefully next month will be a bit calmer.

JH Furnish releases debut tracks from 'Blackening'

Posted on May 30, 2007 at 2:01 AM by John Furnish

I have chosen MySpace and Sno-Cap as the release point for digital downloads of my work from 'Blackening', my debut spoken-word CD, minus two tracks:

http://www.myspace.com/jhfurnishpoet

The CD, complete with case and interior booklet, will see release most likely this week (by June 1st 2007) on cdbaby.com under 'JH Furnish', and will include the full roster of tracks (22).

I hope to schedule some readings in the near future or even to organize my own spoken-word and musical events here in Philadelphia. Anyone who would like to organize such an event with me is welcome to contact me here.

summer is grand....

I love pirates and the mysterious ocean. Barbecues and camping with friends is great fun. This summer, seeing Skinny Puppy and the Police live will be divine. Good friends getting married, meeting new kids who are expanding my tribe, Harry Potter movies and books, visits to the 'burbs to run my toes in green grass, dandelion wine days to share with friends who are leaving soon, sharing an evening on the deck with my mom, and mapping out a new plan for the future...

... so many good things to look forward to when summer arrives!
I hope you all enjoy an excellent holiday weekend!

New Monthly Event - Shadowland Lancaster

Posted on May 4, 2007 at 12:15 PM by D.E. Christman

Shadowland Lancaster - www.myspace.com/shadowlandlancasterShadowland Lancaster is open on the fourth Friday of the month, unless otherwise noted.

Bube's Brewery
102 North Market Street
Mount Joy, PA 17552 (show me a map)
21+ with I.D. to enter.
9PM to 2AM., $5.00 cover.

Hosted by Philly Goth/Industrial vets DJ Kiltboy and Dave Ghoul, Shadowland Lancaster is a monthly Dark Alternative Dance event that was born from its namesake Shadowland, a weekly club night held in Philadelphia, PA. Held in Lancaster County, PA Shadowland Lancaster aims to provide the very best of true alternative music to the masses of Central Pennsylvania: Goth, Industrial, Synthpop, EBM, DeathRock and much more.

All are welcomed: Goths, Industrialites, Rivetheads, Cybers, Spooky kids, Vamps, Werewolves, Black wearing freaks . . . Whatever title has been bestowed upon us as a culture . . .
Our goal is to provide a safe haven for our scene. No drama, drugs or outsiders.

Shadowland Lancaster is held monthly at Bube's Brewery, an intact historic 19th century brewery and museum complex. Bringing together a taproom, a microbrewery, a homebrew shop, a martini bar, three restaurants, an art gallery, and biergarden, Bube’s Brewery is a veritable beer theme-park in a lavish Victorian setting.

Ascension 100!!

Posted on March 14, 2007 at 4:53 AM by Jennifer Brozenske

It's finally here. The long awaited, very anticipated 100th issue. I'm more than a little pleased to be presenting something so monumental.

*The Stranger and Electrichead have prepared some Grade A poetry.
*We have a Dark Vignette from The Alienist.
*A newcomer from Morbid Outlook, Sparrow, delivers an amazing piece of fiction.
*Julian, from days of yor, presents several short poems to commemorate the occasion.

We're so glad you could celebrate with us!

Please check out all the great poetry from Sugarpuss and The Stranger. We also have another Eclectic Rant from Electrichead and even guest work from Black Onyx.

Out of the shadows..

Posted on September 21, 2006 at 4:49 PM by John Ruszin

Collinwood13 has 10 songs done and ready to go but we're aiming for lucky number 13 before releasing the disc. Things are moving along well and the debut disc from CW13 should be done soon. Artwork has been completed and photoshoots are scheduled. We had a short break to work on a remix for a great Philly band Dark Disco Club, a song called "Caress the Ghost." Also on deck is a remix for another great band Interrogation, which should be done soon as well. With all of the remixes, the new disc coming to a close and it being our favorite time of year--we're definitely busy!
Check out the website Collinwood13.com to hear all of the new songs-and the ever popular Sisters of Mercy cover, "Lucretia My Reflection."

Upcoming Art Shows for the Halloween Season

Posted on September 21, 2006 at 9:10 AM by D.E. Christman

Hello everyone!

I have two art shows coming up this October that you may be interested in seeing. Both are very much Halloween themed.

THE HALLOWEEN OPERA:
Saturday, October 7th - 9AM to 5 PM
Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center
Jim Thorpe, PA
http://www.halloweenopera.com/

Spotlighted are original Halloween art pieces that talented artists, from all over the country, have come to exhibit, sell, and celebrate the holiday of death and rebirth. Reminiscent of old fireside chats of days gone by, you will, also, hear stories of the history of Halloween and how the popular collectible art form has grown. In the midst of the celebration, a chance encounter with an apparition, or brush with a banshee will surely leave your spine tingling.

I will also be a guest speaker. Ghosts, Apparitions and Hauntings: An open-floor discussion moderated by D.E. Christman on the supernatural and its influence on culture in America and the world.

THE GALLERY AT BARONE STUDIO:
Exhibition Opening
Friday, October 13th - 6PM to 9:30PM
19b North 7th St., Perkasie, PA
http://www.baronephotography.com/thegallery.html

Apparitions - A celebration of dark and spooky things for the Halloween Season! Featuring the art of D.E. Christman, Keith Minnion, Vince Snyder and Evi Numen.

Food and drink will be provided. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Hope to see as many of you as possible at these two shows!

Have a wonderful Halloween season!

Holy complete and utter overhaul, Batman! That's right, the site has been completely recoded from the ground up. You may notice similarities with the old site (like the wonderful graphics from Grendel's Den), but there is so much more now.

This is now truly a community site. That means that all the content is going to be provided by the community. I know the old site had places for you to add links, lists and places, and that hasn't changed, but this site will be more interactive. You can post opinions, reviews, upcoming events, picture galleries, and a whole lot more. All posts will be made available on a syndicated RSS feed that you'll be able to import to your favorite blog, or anywhere you can get news feeds. Events calendars will be more up-to-date, because every club night on here will be listed by the promoters who put them on. No more three-year-old listings for club nights that folded after two weeks (or rather, if there is, it's not my fault anymore).

In addition to all these wonderful upgrades, PhillyGoth has more maintenance. User accounts aren't automatic sign-up-and-go deals. There is a verification process that is handled by our Admin staff. It's not instantaneous, but it should be pretty damn fast. This will allow for a more interactive and involved community.

Most importantly, this site is for you, the Philadelphia Gothic/Industrial community. Take care of it, use it, and have fun with it!

-pb
